Welcome to meditating in God's Word podcast. I am your host Dorothy Rose of Dora. The Rose dot com. Thank you so much for joining me for this podcast. Um this is less than for, this is in the exodus book. Uh the name of this lesson is plagues one through four and this is found in exodus seven and eight. Wow you guys. Before I even start this narrative, I am blown away because I can't wait for you all to read this word for yourselves because it's amazing. So we have um moses and Aaron coming to pharaoh to talk to him and acts for the release of the slaves by God's command moses already knew that pharaoh's heart was going to be hard because God told him he told him in advance.

So he just didn't tell him how many times or give him specific details of other things. But moses knew that it would not be an easy feat to get pharaoh to release these slaves. I mean let's be honest, who would want to release slaves. So let's get into these plagues. So there are four plagues in this lesson. What are very distinct about the plagues are that they are only in Egypt where the Israelites lived. The plagues were not there. So these plagues only bother the Egyptians because that's who were holding the Israelites hostage. So the first plague was fish God killed all the fish in the river and it died and it had just like a disgusting smell and it stunk up the whole place basically. And the Egyptians had to dig along the river to get drinking water because the water was polluted from all the dying bitch.

So we go move from the fish plague to the frog plague and frogs came and covered the entire land of Egypt as the bible records and just think about frogs being everywhere, frogs being in the bed, frogs, being in the kitchen, frogs being on the playground area. I mean, you know everywhere they went there was frogs and the Israelites were not being affected by this. So you have to understand how uh stark of a contrast it is for a land that's close to them to be plagued with frogs and dead fish and they not be affected by it. Then you also had lice they were the third plague. Uh, and swarms of flies were the fourth plague. And I don't know if you understand that in today's, in today's language, like when we think about a fly, we think about flying, you know, shoeing one fly away. No, this is not that we're talking about swarms of flies.

It is stressful and disheartening to think about being surrounded by flies basically being tormented by these flies and there are always knew who to go to to get the place to stop. He went to moses and he said, you know what pray to God. So you can take these flies away. And after the plague had stopped moses, heart would just, it would go back to being hard again. That's exactly what it did. It went back to being hard after the plague had ended. So I pray that you read this for yourself. The name of this lesson again is um plagues one through four. This is an exodus seven through eight. Let me read you a little bit of commentary in exodus 7 16. God gave moses and Aaron instructions to command pharaoh to let God's people go. I thought it was very interesting that God moses or Aaron never asked pharaoh to let God's people go.

It was a command. God never asks us to do anything when God tells us something, he wants us to do it. The command does not need an answer or it's not a good suggestion. God's commands demand obedience. A better word is require God's commands requires obedience. Um, let me give you a few questions. The first question is, what was the first miracle moses and Aaron showed pharaoh. If you can summarize that and also give me chapter and verse, I would appreciate that. And then how many days would it take for the Children of Israel to journey into the wilderness.
